I was reluctant to start a blog because 1) before we had kids I figured no one really cared to hear about how John and I pretty much went to school and work everyday and 2) the internet can be a crazy place.
When Abigail was born, I figured it was a great reason to finally start a blog - which would allow me to keep a journal of our family adventures and keep all who wanted to be up to date on Abigail. I had fully intended to make it a private blog for more security, but felt like I needed to keep it public because of all of the people who looking at it for updates - even people through my parents and such.
Lately, I have been getting really weird comments - sometimes even written in another language. I thought I had my comments set-up to restrict certain things, but yet these weird comments show up.
I am torn on whether to go private or continue to leave it public.... What do you think?

If it just the comments thing that worries you, I would just turn on comment moderation. Before a comment shows up on the blog, you have to approve it.
I took a look at the comments, and they just seem "spam like" to me. I wouldn't necessarily be worried about predators on the internet. However, if that is your worry (as opposed to just the weird comments), I would recommend going private. =)

I would not worry too much about it. I took a look at the comments, it looks like Japanese to me, at least one, I wander if they accessed your blog through Edward's. I enjoyed your new entry.
i agree with just doing comment moderation. that's just because i haven't had anything creepy happen to me yet and because well, frankly i'm too lazy to go private. what a hassle! but to be honest, you of all people, seem like the type to go private.
I totally would go private that is why I did a long time ago there to to many creepy people out there. That is my opinion!
I used to get weird comments too, but I blocked this one guy and haven't had a problem since. I think it is whatever you feel comfortable about doing, just please include me!
It's in Chinese. They are sayings or proverbs. Unfortunately the links that follow and look like ......................... are links to porn. You may be able to block those people on a case by case basis but other than that you would have to make your blog private and just invite the peeps you want.
I would for sure go private asap. Lots of people have been having your problems and yes, they are hackers and porn sites. Let me know when you switch via email so I can keep up with your little family.
Yeah it's a tough choice! I understand why people go private but I wish there was a middle ground somehow. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

My biggest thing was when I would do a Google search and come up with blogs. I could learn all about people I had zero connection to. That sorta freaked me out that anyone could do that.
I only began blogging when I learned you could make it private. A friend keeps her family updates & life on a private blog, then general 'health' updates about her premature baby on a public one.
You can change your settings to exclude your blog from search engines - my opinion is that going private IS worth the hassle. Creeps are just not worth the risk to me.
